Traders said they expected copper to remain calm ahead of Friday's LME stocks data. "With the options out of the way the next focus is on the inventory data which has been a major influence on the market recently," one trader said. Benchmark three months delivery copper was last at $2,188, versus Tuesday's LME close of $2,183. Traders said they expected copper to continue to meet selling above the $2,200 level, while they pegged support at $2,150 and $2,125. Nearby spreads held little changed levels. Copper's cash to three months backwardation was last indicated at around $170, little moved from Tuesday. Aluminium moved slightly higher to find commission house selling. It was last at $1,532, up $5. Traders said they also expect aluminium to consolidate near-term following a constructive chart close on Tuesday. Aluminium's option declarations also passed routinely. Calls at the $1,500 stike price were declared, while puts at the same level were not exercised. The other base metals remained quiet at little changed levels. Nickel was unchanged at $6,830, down $5, while lead drifted $5 lower to $681. Zinc was up $1 at $1,062. Tin lost $5 to $6,075. Alloy was indicated at $1,368/72, versus $1,368.
