"No one really did anything today," one dealer said. "It was very, very quiet." The benchmark December contract finished $1 a tonne firmer, at $1,359, after ranging narrowly between $1,363 and $1,354. Second-month March rose $4, to settle at $1,395, while the remaining months closed up $6 to down $4. Estimated volume on the day reached 1,854 lots, compared to Tuesday's official tally of 6,218 lots. Traders pegged near term chart support at $1,348-$1,345 in the December contract, while resistance was seen around $1,370. In the longer term, one dealer said the December contract was likely to be confined to a range between $1,400 and $1,300. "It is rangebound and will probably stay this way until we get some more pod counts, or grind news," he said. In fundamental news, the U.S. Commerce Department reported Wednesday that cocoa bean imports rose to 29,437 tonnes in July, compared to 20,970 tonnes in June and 19,418 tonnes in July last year. Traders said the rise in U.S. imports was supportive. "It is friendly," a trader said. "It shows demand is better." 191135 MET sep 96
