Dealers said the December contract's inability to break through key resistance of $1,390 a tonne on Tuesday set the stage for today's sell off. "Technically, one should have sold and everyone did," one trader said. The benchmark December contract sunk to a session low of $1,348 before industry-linked buying cut into losses. December finished at $1,358, down $18 on the day. Second-month March also fell $18, to settle at $1,391, while the remaining months closed $16 to $19 lower. Technically, dealers pegged chart support at $1,340 in the December contract, while resistance was seen around $1,385. Volume was moderate, at an estimated 6,243 lots. The CSCE said Tuesday it will cut minimum margin on all cocoa contracts months to $400 from $500 effective Wednesday, September 18 for exchange members and members of the trade. Margins for customers who are not members of the exchange or the trade will not be less than 140 percent of the amount prescribed above, the CSCE said in a statement. 181112 MET sep 96
