"It was a little overdone yesterday," one trader said. Traders said speculative liquidation off of Wednesday's rally pressured values, but failed to gather enough momentum to breach $1,352 a tonne support in the December contract. Benchmark December cocoa settled down $7 a tonne, at $1,355, after ranging between $1,366 and $1,352. March fell $5 to $1,389, while the rest ended $9 weaker to $1 firmer. On the charts, traders said the December contract would need to trade above 1,370 to attract substantial buying interest. They said that the market's fundamental outlook remained a bit bearish, with improved 1996/97 Ivorian crop prospects expected to continue to weigh on prices. Volume was exceedingly thin, at an estimated 3,258 lots.
