Data released by the Malaysian Palm Oil Registration and Licensing Authority (PORLA) put end-November crude palm oil at 800,676 tonnes, down 12.75 percent from 917,660 in October. Malaysia's palm oil stocks rose 10.48 percent to 1.14 million tonnes at end-November from 1.03 million at end-October and compared with 955,958 at end-November 1996, while exports at end-November were running at 634,224 tonnes against 619,483 in October and 636,554 tonnes in November 1996. "Overall the figures look bearish, but the weakness of the ringgit has stopped the market falling too far," said one trader. Uncertainties over Indonesian export quotas continued to hamper the crude palm oil market. Local press reports in Indonesia seemed to suggest that the quotas may not be final and more companies may be able to export. European traders said they had been told a meeting was talking place on Monday between producers and government officials and they were hopeful that the situation would become clearer following the meeting. At the close crude palm oil cif Europe was $2.50 down to $5 up while products were $2.50 to $5 lower with no further business reported. Lauric oils closed unchanged to $5 up in a tradeless market. High Chicago soy oil futures had little impact in Europe where soft oils closed virtually unchanged from midday. Dutch soy oil was 0.25 guilders up to unchanged while rape oil was 0.50 guilders down to unchanged. Informacije: Zoran Popijač telefon: 01/273-927 fax: 01/4550-148 161137 MET dec 97
