Later a rally by the dollar against major European currencies further dampened interest with business slow, especially in the Netherlands ahead of the Sinterklaas celebration this weekend. The ringgit rebounded sharply from 3.70 to the dollar from 3.8650 following the announcement of a new economic package by Malaysian Deputy Prime Minister Anwar Ibrahim. The announcement prompted currency speculators is buy the ringgit, local dealers said. In European the swings kept most players sidelined and prices movements were restricted to $2.50 each way. The latest crop report from Malaysian private forecaster Ivan Wong was virtually ignored. "The Wong report was in line within expectations and people have really only been watching the ringgit," said one trader. The Malaysian private forecaster said local palm oil production in November is estimated to decline by 13.4 percent to 790,000 tonnes from October. Wong put end-November stocks at 1.06 million tonnes against Malaysia's Palm Oil Registration and Licensing Authority (PORLA) 1.03 million at end-October. Palm oil exports were projected at 615,000 tonnes against PORLA's 618,989 tonne in October. At 1615 GMT crude palm oil was $7.50 to $5 down while products were $2.50 up to unchanged with no further business reported. Coconut oil finished mixed with offers $5 down to $5 up while palmkernel oil was $5 lower in tradeless markets. Dutch soy oil closed 1.50 to 2.50 guilders down despite the higher Chicago opening while rape oil was one guilder up to 0.50 guilders down. Traders said prices eased mainly due to a lack of buyers.
