Chicago soy futures were sharply lower by the close of the European market mainly due to reports of good planting and growing weather in Brazil. Traders said there had been little to go on during the day with concern over Indonesian palm oil export quotas fading into the background now that details of the limits were available. "Prices are returning or going below where they were before the Indonesian limits became a factor with the weaker ringgit and lower Chicago helping them on there way," said one trader. Crude palm oil sellers were sharply lower at the close with offers $5 to $15 down. "There were a number of buyers about, but they disappeared as sellers came out," said another trader. Products were unchanged from midday at $2.50 to $5 down. Coconut oil attracted active dealer trading during the afternoon with Feb/Mar trading at $605 and $602.50 a tonne cif. Feb/Mar was also reported to have traded at $600 but this could not be confirmed. Mar/Apr coconut oil fetched $615, $612.50 and $610 a tonne cif and then reported, but not confirmed, to have traded back up to $612.50 and $615 a tonne. Soy oil sellers saw some of the sharpest falls during the afternoon with closing offers three to one guilder down in a tradeless market. Tight supplies kept rape oil steady but prices were trimmed at the close to end 2.50 guilders up to unchanged. Informacije: Zoran Popijač telefon: 01/273-927 fax: 01/4550-148 031125 MET dec 97
