"No one expected palm oil to go up today and that put most buyers off after the early interest disappeared," said one trader. Palm oil rose on uncertainties over Indonesian palm oil export quotas which came into effect at the beginning of the month. Traders said the market was awaiting the outcome of a meeting between Indonesian government officials and palm oil producers on Wednesday over export quotas imposed by the government. The Indonesian government had allowed the country's top eight producers to export palm oil in return for their supplying 75 percent of their output to the home market. Other companies have been asked to delay or cancel exports in December and January, but discussions are to be held on Wednesday into the possibility of more producers being allowed to export palm oil. "The market is still hung up by the Indonesian export quotas and all we can hope is that the situation will become clearer later this week," said one trader. The uncertainty created some speculative buying with crude palm oil but after some early trading in crude palm oil interest disappeared. By the close crude palm oil cif Europe was $2.50 up with no further business reported. RBD palm oil closed $2.50 higher while olein was $2.50 to $5 up. Coconut oil closed unchanged with no business reported during the afternoon while palmkernel oil was $2.50 higher after Dec/Jan traded at $580 in a switch with Jan/Feb at $600 a tonne cif. Soft oils were quiet and closed with soy oil 0.50 guilders down to unchanged while rape oil was one guilder lower after Feb/Apr traded at 121 guilders a 100 kilos fob ex-mill.
