Activity was thin with 7,000 lots estimated to have exchanged hands on the day. Thursday's official volume was 5,289 lots. Dealers said producer and small speculative selling coupled with a dearth of buying interest pressured the May contract to settle 0.24 cent lower at 75.63 cents per pound. The contract ranged from 75.95 to 75.60 cents, matching Thursday's low. March ended down 0.33 cent at 73.87 cents. The last trading day for the spot month is Thursday. Open interest stood at 423 lots as of the previous close. While prices settled slightly under resistance Thursday, some players had hoped the market would stage a rally back over the key level this morning. But weakening prices from the outset prompted some of the smaller speculators to sell, a floor source said.
