Fund buying carried the front month to the highs. The spot March contract ended up 0.34 at 74.85 cents, traded 75.20 to 74.25. The back months settled 0.40 to 0.10 firmer in volume estimated at 9,000 lots. "The market held early after being down and couldn't work lower, but we ran into a brick wall at 75.25," Sharon Johnson, an analyst with Frank Schneider and Co Inc, said. Resistance is seen at 75.50 cents in March. Market sources said prices should remain in the current range ahead of the U.S. Department of Agriculture's monthly supply and demand report, released Feb 12. Thursday's weekly export data could also influence prices, analysts said. Weekly exports should average around 150,000 bales until the end of the season, in order to reach the USDA's target of 6.3 million bales of exports for the current season. 061030 MET feb 97
