Analysts expect USDA to raise its forecast for 1996/97 exports to between 6.4 million and 6.6 million bales, from 6.3 million bales in January. USDA will issue its report Wednesday at 0830 EST. Despite bullish fundamental expectations, technical trade pushed the spot-March contract through several support targets. The contract fell under support at 73.50 cents a lb to a low of 73.40 cents. Traders pegged support below that level at 73.20 and then at 73.00 cents. The persistent selling eroded trade buying, which had held prices earlier in the session, floor sources said. March closed down 0.41 cent at 73.85 cents after trading from 74.40 to 73.40 cents. The back months ended down 0.57 to 0.27 in volume estimated at 15,000 lots. Analysts said recent U.S. sales and dwindling foreign supplies could prompt USDA to raise its export forecast to between 6.4 million and 6.6 million 480-lb bales, from 6.3 million bales in January. 120953 MET feb 97
