Cargill and Dean Witter were cited as recent sellers. "The funds continue to sell every day. They're following the trend and the trend is lower," a trader said. He added that a lack of buying eased the move lower. The market remained weak from the open, when prices ignored what analysts believed would be a mildly bullish report by the U.S. Department of Agriculture. The USDA raised exports to 6.5 million 480-lb bales from 6.3 million bales and lowered ending stocks to 4.45 million bales from 4.70 million bales. Meanwhile, several market sources expect a recent string of robust weekly sales to buoy exports to 6.8 million bales by season's end. Expectations for Thursday's weekly export and sales report range from 150,000 to 200,000 bales. Still, the March contract closed down 0.43 cent at 73.42 cents a lb, having ranged from 74.00 to 73.40 cents. The back months ended down 0.45 to 0.05 cent. Volume was estimated at 15,000 lots compared with Tuesday's official volume of 15,801 lots. 131056 MET feb 97
