Although the gap between bid and offer prices generally proved too significant to result in firm trades, traders said mill-buyers were seeking much more actively to cover their requirements up to mid-year. With no fresh fundamental news, and New York cotton futures called to open unchanged to softer, industry sources said the brighter outlook for yarn and textile sales was likely to be behind the pick-up. 131002 MET jan 97
