"U.S cottons now appear competitively priced compared with Central African and Asian growths," one industry expert said. U.S. Middling 1-1/32 inches were quoted down by 0.75-1.00 cents a lb, with Memphis styles selling at around 81.75 cents. The sudden addition of extra competition forced sellers of upland growths to reassess their asking prices which brought a flurry of price-testing, trade sources said. But, the strong U.S. dollar is limiting the amount of fresh business and trade has been focussed on nearby requirements, they added. 231029 MET jan 97
