BOSNIAN ARMY TO FULLY WITHDRAW FROM MT IGMAN DEMILITARISED ZONE

Autor:
ZAGREB, Nov 1 (Hina) - "We are going to fully withdraw our forces from the Igman demilitarised zone shen UNPROFOR secures a supply route for Sarajevo accross this mountain," Vice-President of the Federation of Bosnia-Herzegovina, Ejup Ganic, said today following talks with UN Special Envoy, Yasushi Akashi. He said most of the Bosnian troops had already withdrawn. Akashi confirmed this, adding he expected the Bosnian army to "pull out all troops from this zone very soon." Ganic said he would meet with Akashi again next week, probably in Sarajevo, to elaborate a plan for shipping aid into Sarajevo and other enclaves during winter. This is the third winter Sarajevans are spending under Serb siege. "The situation in Sarajevo is very serious and the citizens are exhausted," Ganic said. He said he expected the international community to do more than it has done so far, as new UN Resolutions opened new possibilities for UNPROFOR's humanitarian activity. Akashi said UNPROFOR was going to do its best to "alleviate the suffering of people in Sarajevo and other enclaves during winter", but that UN peace-keepers would continue to rely on "talks and agreement between the sides." Ganic said he and Akashi also discussed Moslem-Serb clashes in the Bihac pocket (western Bosnia). He said the offensive of the 5th corps was a "preventive action" in response to Serb preparations for an offensive. He warned about a serious humanitarian situation in the area and suggested that food should be airdropped since the Serbs did not allow humanitarian convoys. (hina) as 012058 MET nov 94
