BOSNIAN AMBASSADOR CALLS ON UN TO PROTECT CIVILIANS IN B-H

Autor:
WASHINGTON, May 24 (Hina) - Following yesterday's phosphorus bomb attack on Sarajevo, the Bosnian ambassador to the UN, Muhamed Sacirbej, called on the UN Security Council to take action to put an end to the suffering of civilians. In a letter to SC President, Jean-Bernard Merimee, Sacirbej said the forces yesterday shelled Sarajevo with bombs containing phosphorus filling, which was banned under the Geneva Convention. The use of phosphorus was confirmed by UNPROFOR. "These weapons are being used against the population of Sarajevo without punishment or response," Sacirbej said. "Once again, Bosnian civilians are paying the heaviest price." "According to UN logic, which justifies the failure to act by the fact that the sides are equal in strength, the Nazi murders of innocent civilians were really nobody's business, because the Allies more than matched the Nazis in strength," Sacirbej concluded.
