ZAGREB, May 19 (Hina) - The Community of Croatian refugees from
Vojvodina today appealed to several international institutions for
protection of human rights, of all non-Serb citizens of the
northern Serbian province of Vojvodina.
"We ask you to do everything to immediately stop the savage
violence Serb extremists commit over remaining Croats and members
of other ethnic communities in the towns and villages such as
Hrtkovci, Kukuljevci, Golubinci, Surcin, Bac and Sombor,
demolishing churches and cemeteries on a regular basis, as well as
terrorizing the innocent local people."
The Community warns that "organized gangs of henchmen,
tolerated by the authorities, have been continually attacking the
homes of the remaining Croats and all other non-Serbs."
"If we do nothing about this, we shall soon face a new tragedy
like that of Vukovar and many other towns and villages happening
throughout Croatia in 1991," Community statement said.
