ZADAR, March 15 (Hina) - The assistant commander of the Croatian
army in Split, 1st Lt. Mario Tomasovic, today told a press
conference in Zadar that Serb paramilitary forces in Croatia's UNPA
South had been systematically violating the Zagreb agreement and
that UNPROFOR tolerated such actions.
Tomasovic said that Serb aggressors had lately intensified
digging trenches and fortifying their positions inside the zone of
separation in the Zadar hinterland.
The intensified movement of Serb troops was noticed in
Pridraga, Zemunik Gornji, Razovljeva Glava overlooking Skabrnja,
Nadin, Veliki Umac, between Benkovac and Pristega, Jagoda Donja and
Kakma.
In the areas of Jagoda Donja and Kakma, Serbs had dug trenches
about 500-800 meters long and were preparing for an offensive,
Tomasovic said.
He said it was unbelievable that UNPROFOR officials, aware of
those Serb activities, equally accused both the Croatian and Serb
sides for massing troops and equipment.
Tomasovic strongly protested over the recent arrival of the
notorious Serb war criminal, Captain Dragan, in Kasic village near
Benkovac. He said it was as a disgrace that UNPROFOR had allowed
this to happen.
At the same time the Croatian army did not violate the Zagreb
ceasefire agreement and UNPROFOR had confirmed this in several
reports, Tomasovic said.
He said that UNPROFOR still had not managed to force rebel
Serbs to withdraw heavy artillery from the separation zone,
particularly in the Peruca area where a Serb howitzer unit was
positioned and from where it was attacking neighbouring Bosnia-
Herzegovina.
