SARAJEVO, March 7 (Hina) - The government of Bosnia-Herzegovina
today said it would request the Organization for Security and
Cooperation in Europe (OSCE) to return its observer mission to
Sandzak to protect the Moslem community there as the Serbian police
and military stepped up their campaign of terror.
The Bosnian government discussed the issue at an emergency
session and decided to inform the UN Security Council, the Council
of Europe, the OSCE and the governments of Great Britain and France
of human rights violations in Sandjak, a region in southwestern
Serbia.
Prime Minister Haris Silajdzic said that 45 villages along the
Bosnian-Serbian border were cleansed of Moslem population. Serbian
police had killed 40 Moslems and 181 had gone missing.
Silajdzic said that about 16 thousand members of various
Serbian paramilitary groups were sowing terror among Sandzak
Moslems, forcing them to flee their homes.
The government called on the international community to exert
pressure on Belgrade to stop violations of the fundamental human
rights of the Moslem population in Sandzak.
