SARAJEVO, March 2 (Hina) - UN and UNHCR representatives in Sarajevo
today blamed the Bosnian Serbs for violating the four-month truce,
particularly clauses that stipulate freedom of movement for UN
peace-keepers and relief workers.
According to UN spooksman Gary Coward, the Bosnian Serb
authorities in Pale today denied passage to eight convoys carrying
supplies for UN peace-keepers.
UNHCR spokesman Chris Janowski said Serbs also served notice
they would allow no land convoys into the Bosnian capital during
the week beginning Sunday.
Rebel Serbs in Croatia were also helping their ethnic kin in
Bosnia stymie UN efforts. According to Janowski, Knin authorities
this morning revoked an earlier permission for two Bihac-bound
convoys to cross the territory under their control.
The situation was deteriorating both in Bihac and in the
eastern-Bosnian enclaves, which has not received any medical
supplies for months.
The UN Commander in Sarajevo could not travel to Zepa
yesterday because the Serbs would not let him.
The UN spokesman described such behaviour as "unacceptable".
Janowski confirmed that the self-appointed Serb authorities
were getting more ruthless in their treatment of the remaining non-
Serb population, particularly in the Banja Luka area.
Serb police yesterday arrested the local head and nine
officials of a Moslem charity, Merhamet. They ransacked the
premises and seized all the records and computer equipment in the
place.
Col. Coward said the Serbs had offered no explanations for
their behaviour.
Janowski warned that the increased harrassment and blockades
may be linked to successful Bosnian army operations on Mt Vlasic.
"Nobody has made any official connection between the two
events, but Pale has made it quite clear to us that they were angry
because of what happened on Mt Vlasic," Janowski explained.
