BOSNIA SAYS RECEIVED NO OFFICIAL REQUEST FOR CENGIC'S DISMISSAL

Autor:
SARAJEVO, Oct 26 (Hina) - The government of Bosnia-Herzegovina has not received any official demand by Washington to dismiss Bosnian Federation Defence Minister Hasan Cengic, Prime Minister Hasan Muratovic told Sarajevo television on Saturday evening. Muratovic said that a delay in unloading an arms shipment for the Federation armed force from a US ship that arrived in the southern Croatian Adriatic port of Ploce two days ago, was caused by "some other problems that will probably be solved very soon." At this moment the Federation government could not relieve Cengic of his duties because a Federal parliament had not been constituted yet, he said. However, Muratovic said that "changes may start when the Federation government has been reshuffled," but he expressed confidence that the US arms would be delivered to the Federation army before that. The office of President Alija Izetbegovic said in a statement that the US government had complained about Cengic's uncooperativeness in the process of drawing up and implementing federal defence legislation and that it recommended that he be replaced. "We have reliable information that for the same reasons a similar request has been sent in connection with Defence Minister Vladimir Soljic, so that no 'Iranian connection' or anything similar is the cause of the American demand," said the statement carried by the state-run B-H Press news agency. "President Izetbegovic is confident that the difficulties will be overcome soon," it said. According to a statement by the Federation Defence Ministry, Cengic met in Sarajevo on Saturday with a senior Turkish military delegation headed by General Ersin Yilmaz. (hina) vm 262205 MET oct 96
