ARMS CONTROL AGREEMENT BEING SUCCESSFULLY IMPLEMENTED

Autor:
SARAJEVO, Oct 18 (Hina) - OSCE (Organization for Security and Cooperation in Europe) Chairman's special envoy for implementation of arms control, Ambassador Viegleik Eide, on Friday said all sides that signed the Dayton Accord were cooperating well in carrying out measures for establishing military stability in the region. The sides professionally behaved toward the obligations from documents on the arms control, signed in Florence this June, he told a news conference in Sarajevo. He also voiced satisfaction with talks he had held recently in Zagreb, Mostar, Pale and Sarajevo. Eide pointed to plans, made in detail by Croatia and Yugoslavia, for reduction in arms, that should be carried out soon. Bosnian Serbs pledged to begin to destroy by the end of 1996 weapons that are beyond limits imposed by an agreement on security and arms control. However, Bosnian Serb authorities made trouble by insensible interpretation of some parts of the agreement, he added. Pale Serbs were trying to misuse Dayton accord provisions on undetermined number of heavy weapons for experiments, according to Eide. The Dayton accord envisaged that the first stage of the confidence building, security and arms control should be completed by the end of 1996, whereas the whole process should end by the end of 1997.
