ZAGREB, 11 Feb (Hina) - The Parliament Vice President Vlatko
Pavletic on Tuesday received a delegation of the Independent
Association of Tenants. The delegation informed Pavletic about
their basic requests. The aim of the association is the recognition
of the legally acquired tenancy rights, the delegation said.
The delegation warned that the laws concerning tenancy rights
have put into an unfavorable position those tenants who had tenancy
rights and lived in confiscated flats. They added that the owners
of confiscated flats are not satisfied with the solution either.
The adoption of a law on flat renting forces that group of
tenants to sign rent contracts with flat owners and they lose the
security their tenancy rights had guaranteed to them.
The law enabled other categories of tenants to buy off flats
they live in, the delegation said.
Stressing that it was hard to find a satisfactory solution,
Pavletic said he hoped that the problem would be solved in an
adequate way. He added that the owner of a flat cannot take any
action against the tenant if it is not in line with the law.
