Ambassador Szalay held talks on Wednesday with Croatian
Parliament President Vlatko Pavletic. Szalay said that the
Letter of Intent by the Croatian government ensured
prepositions for a peaceful completion of the establishment of
the Croatian constitutional and legal system in that part of
Croatian territory.
Szalay said that as a neighbouring country, Hungary
wished for a peaceful development of Croatia, the
normalization of relations with the federal Republic of
Yugoslavia and a solution to the crisis in Bosnia-Herzegovina.
Szalay expressed thanks for the fact that the Letter also
envisaged the application of the highest standards in the
protection of interests of the Hungarian minority in the
Croatian Danube river region.
Pavletic stressed that Croatia would protect the rights
of all national minorities in the region in line with the
highest standards, and added that he expected loyalty to
Croatia from all the residents of the area.
Szalay announced that Hungarian Parliament Speaker Zoltan
Gal would visit Croatia near the end of March.
