A statement issued after the meeting and broadcast by the
local radio in Beli Manastir said that preparations for the
elections would proceed. The final decision would be made in time
and it would depend on the situation at the time of its adoption,
the statement said.
Forcing Serbs to take part in the elections under present
conditions was a violation of the Erdut Agreement, the statement
said.
The elections would not be fair since 600,000 Serbs, who once
used to be a constituent people in Croatia, could not take part in
the elections. The division of the Danubian area into two counties
and manipulations with Croatian citizenship certificates were means
of further ethnic cleansing of the remaining Serbs, the statement
said.
If the decision on participation in the elections is made,
participants in the meeting agreed to start an initiative aimed at
establishing 'a joint political organisation which will organise
people and ensure their active participation in political
processes'.
