Foreign Minister Mate Granic said that a presidential
statement of the UN Security Council was expected to be held
early next week, which would support the Croatian government
Letter of Intent.
Reconstruction and Development Minister Jure Radic
announced that Croatian companies would begin to reconstruct
Vukovar in May.
Interior Minister Ivan Penic recalled the present set-up
of the UNTAES police, describing it as disadvantageous for
Croatia because the relation of Serb police officers to
Croatian was 4 : 1.
He announced that the number of Croatian police officers
would increase this month, and that a special police and river
police would be established.
This was important to do before the elections on 16
March, so that their safe implementation could be ensured,
Penic said.
Prime Minister Zlatko Matesa concluded that the time
frame had been well prepared and clearly showed the Serbs that
"they cannot dream about a change in territorial organization,
about a county or anything like it in the Croatian Danubian
area".
