ZAGREB/VUKOVAR, Feb 12 (Hina) - UNTAES public relations office
on Wednesday issued a statement about the forthcoming
elections in the Croatian Danubian area which said: #L#
"Transitional Administrator Jacques Paul Klein announced
on UNTAES Radio today that elections will be held in the
UNTAES region concurrent with the announced Croatian
nationwide elections on 13 April 1997.
Mr. Klein stated his belief that this date gives enough
time for people to obtain their domovnica and identity cards,
register to vote, and allows for a reasonable time for
political campaigning.
Mr. Klein stressed that a key requirement is that the
elections meet the highest international standards and that
UNTAES which is supervising the elections will ensure that
they are free and fair.
The Transitional Administrator urged all people in the
Region to obtain their documentation and participate in the
elections," the statement said.
