SARAJEVO, Feb 3 (Hina) - The US administration strongly
condemns the reapeareance of former Bosnian Serb leader
Radovan Karadzic in public, US Assistant Secretary of State
John Kornblum said in Sarajevo on Monday.
It is a serious violation of a 19 July 1996 agreement
between the Bosnian Serbs and international peace coordinator
Carl Bildt and US diplomat Richard Holbrook under which
Karadzic must refrain from public statements and interviews,
he said.
Kornblum told reporters in the Bosnian Presidency
building that he had directly warned Bosnian Serb leaders
Momcilo Krajisnik and Biljana Plavsic of this violation.
I told them we would hold them responsible for Karadzic's
acts unless they distanced themselves from that, he said.
According to him, Krajisnik and Plavsic said they did not
agree with either the form or contents of Kradzic's interview
with a Greek newspaper.
Kornblum cautioned that Karadzic's statements had
questioned not only the Dayton peace accords but also human
rights and peace in the region.
The US administration rejects Karadzic's threats of
renewed war in the Brcko area, and the presence of NATO troops
in Bosnia is a clear sign that he won't be able to fulfil
those threats, Kornblum said.
He went on to say that the US government was concerned
about developments in Belgrade on Monday afternoon and the use
of force against demonstrators.
It's a sad development of events and we have made it
known to Yugoslav Foreign Minister Milutinovic, Kornblum said.
