On behalf of the Croatian government, Administration
Minister Davorin Mlakar accepted the solution, taking into
consideration relevant amendments.
A total of 195 amendments had been suggested to the law,
out of which the government accepted about 60.
By accepting the amendment of Ivan Milas (Croatian
Democratic Union, HDZ) that the Zagreb "Ring" is made up of
the Zagreb County with the city of Zagreb as centre, the
government gave up its original suggestion that the county be
called Prigorje County with the centre being the town of
Velika Gorica.
On behalf of the government, Mlakar did not accept
amendments regarding the island of Pag, so the municipality of
Novalja entered the Lika County and the municipality of Pag
the Zadar County.
With the new territorial organization, the number of
towns has increased (there are 28 new towns under the Bill),
and by adopting amendments, there are 13 more new towns.
The only amendment which the government had refused, but
MP's had adopted by voting, was the amendment of Marinko
Filipovic (Croatian Peasants' Party, HSS), under which two
municipalities should not be formed on the island of Mljet.
The government maintained its suggestion that, besides
the municipality of Mljet, another municipality be formed, the
Mljetska Jezera municipality, with Govedarina as centre.
