ZAGREB, July 27 (Hina) - The national and Zagreb branches of the
Croatian Pensioners' Society forwarded an open letter to President
Franjo Tudjman on Monday.
The pensioners expressed "embitterment and dissatisfaction" with
the work of the state administration which, they said in the letter,
wrongly informed the Croatian President about what had so far been
done to improve the difficult situation 90 per cent of Croatian
pensioners were in.
The administration has neither improved the position of
pensioners, nor has it implemented the Constitutional Court
decision on the annulment of Pension Law provisions which
stipulated restrictions on increasing pensions.
The pensioners said in the letter they would not give up their
constitutional rights and appealed to Tudjman not to allow "grey
heads, that have honestly worked off their working life, to have to
go out on the streets and prove their pension rights through
protests".
"We do not want to be classified as the socially vulnerable citizens
of this republic, but we want the Constitutional Court decision to
be implemented in full... We firmly believe that you will approach
our problem conscientiously and that you will not allow yourself to
be wrongly informed and undercut again," the pensioners said in the
letter.
