OSIJEK, Jan 9 (Hina) - The Croatian Interior Minister Ivan Penic on
Friday visited the Osijek-Baranja County police in Osijek.
Penic told reporters before the meeting that his visit was meant to
point out to police officers that they should perform their duties
"utterly professionally and seriously" before the end of the UNTAES
mandate and after it.
"I do not want anybody to attempt by himself to solve the problem of
return outside of Croatian laws," Penic said, calling on residents,
returnees and municipal heads to keep in line with the law in the
process.
"I am aware that many, even the international community, are
waiting for any kind... of incident to diminish our efforts, which I
will not allow," Penic said.
Penic described the operation of buying back arms from residents of
the Croatian Danube river region as "fantastic success".
This action was carried out by the Croatian police with the
cooperation of the UNTAES.
