BRUSSELS, Feb 24 (Hina) - Croatia will seek exemptions during
talks with the European Union on fisheries in order to preserve traditional
customs and practices that do not fit into the Common Fisheries Policy, the
head of the Croatian working group on fisheries, Ivan Katavic, announced in
Brussels on Friday. "In managing sea resources, we will direct our
efforts at ensuring that (...) respect is shown for traditional fishing
activities and traditional tools that are specific to the Adriatic," Katavic
said in Brussels where an explanatory meeting was held ahead of the bilateral
stage of talks on fisheries.
Bilateral talks on the chapter on fisheries, at which Croatian
negotiators will inform the European Commission about the level of adjustment
of Croatian legislation in this segment, are scheduled to take place on 29
March.
