Addressing about 600 participants, including Margot Wallstrom, European Commission vice-president responsible for the communication policy, Plavsa Matic said that a few days ago the Croatian Parliament had adopted a new communication policy to inform the public about Croatia's progress towards EU membership.
Earlier on Wednesday, the European Commission adopted a White Paper on a European Communication Policy, the purpose of which is to remove or reduce the gap between EU citizens and institutions. Lack of information on EU issues among citizens of member states was cited as one of the reasons for failed referendums on the European Constitution in France and the Netherlands.
