BRUSSELS/ZAGREB, Feb 17 (Hina) - The European Commission does not
plan to impose any new restrictions on imports from Croatia because Croatia has
already been classified as a country not fully free of bovine spongiform
encephalopathy (BSE), European Commission spokesman Philip Tod said in Brussels
on Friday. Tod said that the Croatian authorities had promptly
notified the European Commission through its Zagreb office of the suspected
appearance of mad cow disease in Croatia.
Tissue samples have been sent to the Waybridge laboratory in Great
Britain for analysis and test results are expected next week.
The Croatian organisation of meat and milk producers, Croatiastocar,
said in a statement on Friday that Croatian production and processing standards
guaranteed high product quality and that there was no reason to doubt that
Croatian products were not fit for consumption.
