Autor: mses
ZAGREB, Sept 23 (Hina) - During Thursday's parliamentary debate on the conclusion by the Committee on the Constitution, Standing Orders and Political System that the Constitutional Court should decide whether it is still necessary to call a referendum on proposed amendments to labour legislation after the government withdrew them from Parliament, the Independent Democratic Serb Party's (SDSS) caucus said that it would not support this conclusion.

Milorad Pupovac, the head of the caucus of this junior partner in the ruling coalition, called on other members in the ruling majority to additionally discuss this issue.

"The committee's conclusion serves as a way to shun the decision which is in our (Parliament's) remit. Responsibility is being shifted to the Constitutional Court, which may additionally worsen relations among social partners," the SDSS official said.

The other members of the ruling coalition insist that the withdrawal of the draft amendments removed the reason for the referendum.

Parliamentary clubs of the opposition parties say that the referendum must be called in order to respect the will of the people.
