Following the decision of the municipal prosecutor to clear Mrsic, Darko Marinac and Zeljko Djurdjina of charges pressed by the police that suspected them of having concluded harmful contracts in the Pirovac hotel case, some media said that charges were dismissed due to Mrsic's "good connections" in the judicial system.
Minister Karamarko was quoted by a newspaper as saying that he had reason to suspect the decision because a local prosecutor's daughter and husband work for companies set up by the town of Koprivnica.
In response to questions about the position on the Chief State Prosecutor on Karamarko's doubts about the objectivity of the local prosecutors, DORH spokeswoman Martina Mihordin cited a statement issued by the County Office of the Chief State Prosecutor in Koprivnica which stressed that the investigation in this case was not affected at any point by any political, family or other relations.
The prosecution branded such speculations about the influence of Zvonimir Mrsic, a member of the Social Democratic Party (SDP), on the office of local prosecutors as tendentious and incorrect.
Minister Kramarko said he was unpleasantly surprised by the prosecution's decision on the said case in which the police and prosecutors worked together.
Social Democratic Party (SDP) official Ranko Ostojic labelled Karamarko's statements as pressure on the judiciary.
