After gapping higher at the open, December futures stayed in positive territory for the remainder of the session. A downturn on the U.S. dollar against the British pound prompters speculators to sell sterling-demoninated London futures in favor of New York, traders said, but CSCE December was unable to vault above chart resistance in the $1,370-1,375 range. Benchmark December delivery gained $13 a tonne, to close at $1,367 a tonne. Second-month March rose $11, to $1,400, whlie the remaining months climbed $11 to $13. An estimated 3,618 lots were exchanged on the day. In a week mainly notable for its rather low turnover, benchmark December ended down a mere $1 from last Friday's close. Most trades were posted within a $25 range, hemmed in by producer selling overhead and manufacturer-led bargain-hunting at the lows, dealers said. A recent spate of supply forecasts have done little to rouse the market from its recent doldrums. Traders said updated estimates of the Ivorian harvest could spur some fresh interest, but few anticipated decisive crop news to arrive before October at the earliest. 231107 MET sep 96
