News that India had passed at its tender for palm olein came as no surprise following the sharp increase in levels on the Malaysian market. India's State Trading Corporation had been seeking 6,000 tonnes of palm olein for December/January shipment. News of the tender pushed Malaysian palm oil futures to a near limit close, but reaction was muted in Europe where the market was slipping into holiday mode and participation was thin. "There have been a lot of long lunches taken today because many offices will be working with reduced staff over the next two weeks," said one trader. Ivan Wong's latest crop report had little impact on the market. The Malaysian private forecaster estimated local palm oil production in December to have fallen by 17 percent to 665,000- 670,000 tonnes from November. Wong also forecast end-December stocks at 1.0 to 1.01 million tonnes against the 1.14 million reported by Malaysia's Palm Oil Registration and Licensing Authority (PORLA) at end-November. Exports were estimated at 650,000 to 655,000 tonnes in December compared to PORLA's record of 634,224 tonnes in November. At the close Dutch soy oil sellers were 0.50 guilders up to 0.50 guilders down while rapeoil was 0.50 guilders down to unchanged. No firm sellers were available for crude palm oil, but the market was quoted unchanged after Apr/Jun-July/Sep traded at $560 a tonne cif. Products closed with sellers $5 up. Coconut oil finished with offers $10 to $2.50 lower Feb/Mar traded at $580 and May/Jun at $610 a tonne cif. Palmkernel oil closed $20 down on a neglected market.
