Good planting and growing conditions in Brazil continued to hit U.S. soy oil futures leading to a further easing in European prices while the lower Malaysian ringgit against the dollar put more pressure on palm oil prices. Reports carried by Indonesian media that the countries export quotas for palm oil were not formal had muddied the water again, traders said. "Once again people don't know if they are going to get the palm oil they have ordered," said one trader. Others said they were not surprised by the reports because, "if the producers have oil to spare and Indonesia needs the foreign currency they will sell extra palm oil, said a trader. At the close of business crude palm oil cif Europe was $10 to $5 down after Apr/Jun traded at $555 a tonne cif. RBD palm oil was $5 down to unchanged while olein was $2.50 up to unchanged with no further business reported. Stearin was $7.50 down after Dec traded at $470 a tonne fob Malaysian ports. Coconut oil finished $5 up after light trade was reported in Feb/Mar at $605 and Mar/Apr at $615 a tonne cif. Soft oils were tradeless and closed with soy oil three guilders down to unchanged and rape oil 1.50 guilders lower to unchanged.
