Merino fleece was again mixed, with 19/21 microns slightly dearer, 20/22m up to 0.5 percent dearer, 23/24m 0.5 percent cheaper, 25m slightly cheaper and 26m unchanged. Merino skirtings were one percent dearer. In crossbreds, 27/29/30/31m were unchanged and 28m slightly dearer. Cardings were unchanged. WI said Japanese interests and Western Europe were principal buyers with good support from most sectors of the trade. Of the 18,935 bales offered, 8.2 percent were passed in. But, traders said, there were conflicting currency influences with softness in sterling against European currencies being offset by a softening of the Australian unit against the U.S. dollar.
