Currency volatility meant that Australian wool prices were effectively softer again after their gain of one dollar and direction was lacking. Locally, traders returning from holidays and meeting pressure for deliveries looked to wool sales before changing prices. Sterling was not regaining much ground after falling last week and this lessened competeitive pressure from the European continent. But currency crisis in Asia, stock market turbulence and prospects of interest rate rises in Germany and elsewhere discouraged confident buying in such markets as were back from holiday. 201110 MET aug 97
