Merino fleece was mixed, with 19 microns one percent dearer, 20/21/23m 0.5 percent dearer, 22m one percent cheaper, 24/25m slightly dearer, and 26m slightly cheaper. Merino skirtings of 19m were generally unchanged and 20/21m slightly cheaper. In crossbreds, 27/31m were slightly cheaper, 28m 0.5 percent cheaper, 29m one percent cheaper and 30m one percent dearer. Both centres reported cardings were generally unchanged compared to the last sale in each region. WI said Japanese interests and China were the principal buyers with good support from most sectors of the trade. Of the 23,917 bales offered, 9.7 percent were passed in. In early Fremantle trading, merino fleece of 21/22m were three percent cheaper, 23/24m 3.5 percent cheaper with merino skirtings generally unchanged. Bradford was aware of reports that China had raised thee annual quota and reduced tariffs. Increased buying interest is likely and was even put forward as a reason for a firmer Australian market late last week.
