The most-active December contract ended the day up 0.07 cent at 73.85 cents a lb, having ranged from 74.00 to 73.45 cents. The rest of the board settled 0.22 cent lower to 0.38 cent firmer. A lack of fundamental news and three weeks remaining until the U.S. Department of Agriculture issues its next supply and demand estimates is keeping prices confined to a narrow trading range, analysts said. Technically, the failure to maintain gains made last week could put pressure on the market. Nearby support was pegged at the contract low of 73.20 cents basis December. A move under the key level could trigger fund selling that would push the benchmark month to its next downside target at 72.00 cents. Chart resistance was pegged at today's high of 74.00 cents basis the December contract. An estimated 7,500 lots changed hands on the day compared with Monday's official 12,231 lots. 201110 MET aug 97
