The affect of a stronger dollar against European currencies was still being felt in soft oils and put a floor under the market. But in palm oil the lower Chicago opening weakend sentiment further. European prices had followed the easier Malaysian market where plantation houses had been the main sellers. Traders in Asia said plantation houses had been undersold and had been selling on the cash and futures markets. However, traders in Europe said lower prices had set off some active trading during the morning but this had all but dried up by the afternoon. The market is still awaiting the result of Egypt's tender for palm oil which had been expected between 1300 and 1400 GMT, but at the close was still not available. Traders said Egypt was tendering for 10,000 tonnes of RBD palm oil and 10,000 tonnes of palm stearin for last half June arrival. Traders said if Egypt did buy the sharpest offers were $536 a tonne c and f for RBD palm oil and $406 a tonne c and f for stearin. At the close of business Dutch soy oil was unchanged to 0.50 guilders down in tradeless market while rape oil was unchanged to 0.50 guilders lower after Aug/Oct traded at 104.50 guilders a 100 kilos fob ex-mill. Crude palm oil cif Europe closed $5 down after Jun and Jul traded at $537.50 and Jul/Sep at $535 a tonne cif. Products closed $7.50 to $12.50 lower with no further business reported during the afternoon. Coconut oil continued to drift lower with sellers $2.50 down after Jun/Jul traded at $630 and Jul/Aug at $625 a tonne cif. Palmkernel oil finished $7.50 to $5 lower with no late business reported.
