Traders said business was fairly good up until the U.S. market opened. "We were expecting a higher opening, but it came in lower and that frightened buyers off," said one trader. Prior to the Chicago opening Dutch soy oil traded at 106 guilders for Jun/Jul, and 105.50, 105.25 and 105 guilders for Nov/Jan. Rape oil fetched 105 guilders for Aug/Oct and 105.50 guilders for Nov/Jan. By the close soy oil sellers were 0.75 guilders up to one guilder down while rape oil was one guilder lower. Palm oil finished lower following the easier trend in Asia with crude palm oil unchanged to $5 down and products $2.50 to $7.50 lower. Only one additional trade was reported when crude palm oil for Aug/Sep fetched $540. July also traded in a switch with Sep at a $3 spread. Dealer trading gave coconut oil a nudge on the downside with closing sellers $2.50 to $5 down after Jun/Jul traded from $635 down to $630, Jul/Aug at $632.50 and $630, Aug/Sep at $625 and Sep/Oct at $620 a tonne cif.
