European vegetable oils close mixed in active trad
LONDON, May 27 (Reuter) - European vegetable oil prices
finished mixed with active trading seen in soft oils on Tuesday
afternoon.
"In tonnage terms the amount of business was not great but
there was a lot of activity," said one trader.
Traders said crushers were the main sellers with shippers
and consumers on the buy side.
The remainder of the market was quiet with palm oil lower
owing to a lack of demand from major buyers.
Traders said the outlook for palm oil was not good with the
market expected to take a further downturn if buying from China,
Pakistan and India does not emerge over the next couple of
weeks.
Recent export figure released by Malaysian cargo surveyor
Societe General de Surveillance (SGS) were queried by traders.
On Monday SGS put local export during the first 25 days of
May at 547,382 tonnes against 549,976 during the same period in
April.
However, traders in Europe and Asia said the figures were
too high.
Coconut oil sellers were lower with the effect of shipment
delays from origins already factored into prices.
Traders said the delays were never a problem.
"There was a little slippage in delivery dates but nothing
people could not handle," said one.
At the close soy oil was 0.75 to one guilder up after
Aug/Oct traded at 102 and Nov/Jan at 101.25 guilders a 100
kilos.
Rape oil finished 1.50 guilders higher after Jun/Jul traded
at 102.50 and 102.25, Aug/Oct at 101.50 and 102.50, Nov/Jan at
102.50 and 103 and Feb/Apr at 102.75 guilders a 100 kilos fob
ex-mill.
Crude palm oil closed $5 down while products were $2.50 to
$5 lower with no further business reported.
Coconut oil finished $5 to $10 down in a tradeless market.
