Soft oils sellers had withdrawn by the close after Sparks Companies executive Willard Sparks forecast gains in soybeans. "People knew Chicago would surge on what Sparks said and what few sellers there were soon disappeared," said one trader. Palm oil prices closed firm, but business was slow owing to the Queen's Day holiday in the Netherlands. Data released by cargo surveyors Caleb and SGS boosted futures prices in Kuala Lumpur which in turn supported prices in Europe. Malaysia's Caleb Brett put the country's March bulk palm oil exports at 631,334 tonnes against its estimate of 620,004 for March, local traders said. Societe Generale de Surveillance Malaysia Sdn Bhd (SGS) said it estimated Malaysia's palm oil exports for April at 641,520 tonnes against 608,638 tonnes in March. Traders said there was not much prospect of business picking again this week owing to the May Day holiday in most of Europe and Malaysia on Thursday. "A lot of people will make a long weekend off and not bother on Friday," said one. At the close crude palm oil cif Europe was $2.50 up with no business reported. Among products, RBD oil was $2.50 higher after May traded at $569 and Jun at $557 a tonne. Informacije: Zoran Popijač telefon: 01/273-927 fax: 01/4550-148 020751 MET may 97
