Many spinners would appear to be unconvinced by suggestions that supplies for the period in question will be difficult to find. They maintained that the trade is holding back certain quantities and can point to the increasingly attractive asking rates for U.S. cotton, which in recent years has made little headway in Europe. In the meantime, more business has been concluded in Middle Eastern descriptions, notably Syrian, and additional transactions have been mentioned in African, particularly in Italy and Portugal. 231014 MET may 97
