Prices opened lower after the U.S. Department of Agriculture issued a better-than-expected planting progress report, late Monday. Speculative short-covering emerged at the low of 72.25 cents in July and lifted prices over unchanged and to a high of 73.00 cents, where trade selling blocked further gains. The contract closed down 0.03 cents at 72.35 cents, having ranged from 73.00 to 72.25 cents. December ended down 0.03 at 74.77 cents. Support remained at 72.00 cents followed by the contract low of 71.00 cents basis the July contract. Firmer resistance was pegged at 74.10 cents, where buy stops are believed to be resting.
