A BRIEF LOOK AT CROATIAN PRESS ON THURSDAY, JULY 7

ZAGREB, July 7 (Hina) - Today's VJESNIK carries a report on the Geneva talks where the Contact Group presented a proposal on the resolution of the Bosnian crisis. "The formula 51:49 recognizes a part of Serb conquests in eastern Bosnia and the Bosnian Moslems are dissatisfied with that, while Serbs should withdraw from a part of western Bosnia and Posavina (except from the Posavina corridor)," says the paper. Vjesnik covers a visit of the Macedonian Prime Minister Crvenkovski to Croatia where he was also received by President Tudjman. "The arrangement of the Croatian-Macedonian relations is an example showing how the countries of the former Yugoslavia should arrange their relations, and the signed agreements are the basis of a co-operation in all spheres," the paper writes. Paul Joachim von Stulpnagel, the new chief of the European Union Monitor Mission, says in an interview with Vjesnik: "I would like to visit Knin soon. I will try to find out if there is a real interest in talks. Both sides say they are interested in talks, but then talks give no results..." Branko Podgornik comments on possibilities of the opposition's return to Parliament. "The opposition continues inner-party and inter-party consultations and the final decision on its (not) coming at parliament's session is expected to be made next week," Podgornik writes. The paper brings an article on refugees' protest against UNPROFOR's inefficiency near Nemetin, in the County of Karlovac and in Sector West. "Agreement with government or strike of fishermen", says the headline of an article on a three-hour blockade of the Split city port. Fishermen protest against government's decision on the increase of fuel price by 26 percent. Another Zagreb daily VECERNJI LIST also covers activities of the Contact Group in Geneva under the headline "95 percent of Bosnian Croats in Federation". The paper carries statements by special representative of the Croatian President Miomir Zuzul, Bosnian Prime Minister Haris Silajdzic and the Contact Group's ministers. "Six agreements signed", says the headline of an article on the visit of Macedonian Prime Minister Crvenkovski to Croatia. President Tudjman held talks with Prime Minister Crvenkovski and accepted an invitation to visit Macedonia. In connection with fishermen's protest against fuel price increase, the paper writes that the ports of Split and Sibenik were blocked yesterday. The northern Adriatic port of Rijeka was also blocked as fishermen there protested against the increase of fuel price by 26 percent in sympathy with their colleagues in Dalmatia. 071136 MET jul 94
